How to Conduct a Weekly Review to Stay on Track
It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind and lose sight of the bigger picture. A weekly review is a dedicated time—usually 30-60 minutes at the end of the week—to step back, assess your progress, and plan for the week ahead. It's the habit that makes all other productivity systems work.
The Three Phases of a Weekly Review
Your review should consist of three main parts: Get Clear, Get Current, and Get Creative.
1. Get Clear
The first step is to clear your mind and your inboxes. The goal is to collect all the "open loops" and loose ends from the past week.
- Collect Loose Papers & Notes: Gather any physical notes and process them. Transcribe important ideas into the LifeCRM Idea Planner.
- Clear Your Head: Do a "brain dump." Write down everything that's on your mind—tasks, worries, ideas. The Priority Stack is a great place for this.
- Process Your Inboxes: Go through your email, voicemail, and any other inboxes. Archive what you don't need, respond to quick emails (using the Two-Minute Rule), and turn the rest into tasks in your List Manager.
2. Get Current
Next, review your progress and commitments to get a clear picture of where you stand.
- Review Your Calendar: Look back at the past week's calendar. Did you accomplish what you set out to do? Look ahead to the next 1-2 weeks. What appointments and deadlines are coming up?
- Review Your Lists: Go through your lists in the List Manager and your tasks in the Priority Stack. Check off completed items. Migrate any upcoming tasks to your calendar.
- Review Your Goals: Look at your higher-level goals. Are you making progress? What's the next step?
3. Get Creative
Finally, with a clear and current picture, you can proactively plan the week ahead.
- Identify Your "Big Rocks": What are the 1-3 most important things you want to accomplish next week?
- Block Time for Your Priorities: Open your LifeCRM Calendar and schedule your "Big Rocks" as non-negotiable deep work sessions.
- Brainstorm: Is there anything else you want to consider? Any new ideas or projects? Use the AI Assistant to brainstorm or explore new possibilities.
By making the weekly review a consistent habit, you ensure that you're not just reacting to your week, but intentionally designing it.
